The bases here are to provide interfaces betwen different mounting standards (footprints) often found in red dot sights and/or the bases.

For example -
Allow red dot sights that have a specific mounting footprint to be fitted on a gun with a weaver or picatiny base.

Allow red dot sights with one footprint to be fitted to a base with a differnt footprint e.g., Glock MOS to Vecto MAG RMS.
